Tajik authorities have toughened punishment for participation in illegal public associations and funding of activities of illegal or public or religious associations.  

Amendments made to the country’s administrative code, in particular, provide for increasing a fine for guidance of unregistered public and religious associations four times – from 2,900 somoni (50 estimate indices) to 11,600 somoni (200 estimate indices).

On January 1 this year, the rate of one estimate index increased from 55.00 to 58.00 somoni.  

Participation in activities of such associations is now punishable by the fine in the amount of 5,800 somoni (100 estimate indices).  The previous fine for participation in illegal or public or religious associations amounted to 406 somoni (seven estimate indices).     

Punishment for funding of activities of illegal or public or religious associations has also been toughened.

The fine for physical entities for funding of activities of illegal or public or religious associations has increased from 696 somoni (12 estimate indices) to 2,900 somoni (50 estimate indices).

For officials, the fine for funding of activities of illegal or public or religious associations has increased from 2,900 somoni (50 estimate indices) to 11,600 somoni (200 estimate indices).

For legal entities, the fine for funding of activities of illegal or public or religious associations has increased from 17,400 somoni (300 estimate indices) to 58,000 somoni (1000 estimate indices).
