By interior minister’s orders a number of police officials in the northern Sughd province have been replaced, according to the Interior Ministry’s press center.

Colonel Muhammadshoh Iskandar, also known as Shoh Iskandar, who had previously served as chief of police department in the northern city of Isfara, was appointed to head the police department in the northern city of Buston (formerly Chkalovsk).

Muhammadshoh Iskandar was a United Tajik Opposition (UTO) field commander for five years, fighting against the government forces during the civil war.

In accordance with a 30 percent quota provided for the opposition in the government and parliament, the Tajik government made him commander of one of subunits of the Interior Ministry.

Major-General Nourullo Oripov, formerly deputy chief of the Interior Ministry Department for Combating Drug, was appointed to head the Isfara police department.

Besides, Major-General Abdullo Navjuvanov, who had previously served as Deputy Interior Minister, was appointed chief of the Sughd Police Directorate, replacing Qudratullo Nazarzoda.

Nazarzoda was appointed Representative of Tajikistan’s Interior Ministry to the Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Center for Combating Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and their Precursors (CARIC).
