Over the first eleven months of this year, 14 corporate residents (more than 40 percent) of 30 corporate residents registered with the Sughd Free Economic Zone (FEZ Sughd) have operated.

The remaining 16 enterprises are reportedly still at the stage of construction and attraction of investments.

Over the reporting period, those 14 corporate residents have produced 143.4 million somoni worth of goods, which is almost the same as the same period last year.

They reportedly produce solar collectors, plastic pipes, electric wires, external wall paints, plastic door and window profiles, plastic bottles, etc.

Meanwhile, the amount of investments in FEZ Sughd has been increasing.  In January-November this year, 15.2 million somonis have been invested in FEZ Sughd, which is 75 percent more than in the same period last year.

About 10 million somonis have been invested in Ohankor enterprise alone.  The enterprise with Uzbek capital will produce metal ingots for further delivery to Uzbekistan.

Over the reporting period, 4.3 million somonis worth of services have been provided, which is 700,000 somonis more than in the same period last year.

In January-November this year, corporate residents of FEZ Sughd have paid 18.5 million somonis in customs duties, which is 1.5 percent fewer compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, creation of new jobs has decreased due to measure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.  In January-November this year, 38 new jobs have been created at Fez Sughd, which is 27 jobs less than in the same period last year.

The Sughd Free Economic Zone or FEZ Sughd is a free economic zone located in the northern Sughd province on the territory of the south-west industrial zone of the city of Khujand.  FEZ Sughd was created in 2008 by a parliamentary decree on 320 hectares of land for 25 years and began operating in August 2009.  Geological and geodetic surveys were made in this area as well as the design work was carried out. In this part of the city there is a possibility to expand the territory of Sughd FEZ for up to 2,000 hectares of land at the expense of free space in the future.

To-date, the Administration of the FEZ Sughd has thirty corporate residents of the free economic zone.  The zone offers customs and tax incentives to qualified investors that invest at least 500,000 USD and import at least 90% of the technology and equipment.
