A military court in Khujand has convicted a soldier of the Ministry of Defense of hazing and sentenced him to prison terms of five years.

A source at the Khujand military garrison says an old soldier Karomatullo Mirzoyev severely beat a new conscript A.M., shattering his jaw.

Criminal proceedings have reportedly been instituted against Mirzoyev under the provisions of Article 373 (2) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – violation of the statutory rules of relations between military personnel.

Taking into account positive characteristics from the place of service of the accused and given that Mirzoyev has not been previously convicted, the court sentenced him to five years in prison.  He will serve his term in a high-security penal colony.
