The Antimonopoly Agency under the Government of Tajikistan will start checking the jet fuel prices within the next few days.

The head of the Antimonopoly Agency Abdulmajid Muminzoda remarked this yesterday at a meeting with reporters in Dushanbe.

He, in particular, noted that based on the results of the check, the price for jet fuel may change downward.

“But it will be possible to say something specifically only after the inspection,” Muminzoda said.

He further noted that the price of jet fuel has remained unchanged in the country since 2017 and current price of one ton of jet fuel is US$1,440.

“There is a likelihood of a decrease in the cost of this fuel, as there is a downward trend in prices for it in the world as the demand for jet fuel fell because airlines were out work due to the coronavirus pandemic,” Antimonopoly Agency top manager said.

Although the price of jet fuel has remained unchanged over the past three years, air tickets prices rose in cost 11 percent in 2019 and 30 percent in 2020.

The Civil Aviation Agency under the Government of Tajikistan said last year that up to 45 percent of the airfare is generated by the cost of jet fuel.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive (CEO) of Tajikistan’s first privately owned air carrier Somon Air, Mr. Thomas W. Hallam, noted earlier last year that the world's highest refueling rate is at Dushanbe airport.

Due to the high cost and periodic shortage of jet fuel in Tajikistan, planes departing from Tajikistan are forced to refuel at airports of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan that creates inconvenience for passengers and the airlines themselves, Somon Air CEO said.

Only one company – Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) Fuel Supply Company – is engaged in supplying and selling jet fuel in Tajikistan.
