Tajikistan has established diplomatic relations with Trinidad and Tobago, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

A ceremony of signing of a joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries took place in New York on February 26.

The document was inked by Mr. Mahmadamim Mahmadaminov, Tajikistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Mr. Ordell Barman, Charge d'affaires of the Permanent Mission of Trinidad and Tobago to the United Nations.

Trinidad and Tobago, officially the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, is the southernmost island country in the Caribbean and is known for its fossil-fuel wealth.  Consisting of the main islands Trinidad and Tobago, and numerous much smaller islands, it is situated 130 kilometers south of Grenada and 11 kilometers off the coast of northeastern Venezuela.  It shares maritime boundaries with Barbados to the northeast, Grenada to the northwest and Venezuela to the south and west.

Trinidad and Tobago is the most developed nation and one of the wealthiest in the Caribbean.  Its gross national income per capita is one of the highest in the Caribbean.  In November 2011, the OECD removed Trinidad and Tobago from its list of developing countries.  Trinidad's economy is strongly influenced by the petroleum industry.  Tourism and manufacturing are also important to the local economy.  Tourism is a growing sector, particular on Tobago, although proportionately it is much less important than in many other Caribbean islands.  Agricultural products include citrus and cocoa. It also supplies manufactured goods, notably food, beverages, and cement, to the Caribbean region.
