More than 1.6 million new jobs had been created in Tajikistan over the past nine years (2012-2020), the Minister of Labor, Migration and Employment of the Population, Ms. Shirin Amonzoda, said in an interview with Jumhuriyat, an official mouthpiece of the  Government of Tajikistan.

According to her, the Ministry of labor, Migration and Employment of the Population (MoLMEP) has promoted the employment of 451,300 people.

At the same time, the minister noted that the number of employed population had increased by 137,800 people in the country: from 2.291.5 million to 2.463.4 million.

This probably means that that most of the jobs created during the reporting period were temporary and subsequently closed.

Meanwhile, according to data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, the country’s labor force (workers and officially registered unemployed) has been estimated at 2.467 million people as of January 1, 2021, including 2.417 million people (98 percent) employed in the economy and 49,900 people having an official status of unemployed, which is 2.0 percent of the labor force.

More than 80,500 new jobs were reportedly created in the country last year, including 33,300 permanent jobs, 38,800 temporary jobs and 8,400 seasonal jobs.

As of January 1, 2021, the population of Tajikistan has been 9.504 million, according to the Agency for Statistics.

Last year, an average monthly wage was 1,642 somonis (equivalent to 145 U.S. dollars) in Tajikistan.

An estimated 500,000 Tajik seasonal workers travel abroad each year, primarily to Russia but also to neighboring Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
