Members of Tajikistan’s lower chamber (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament have unanimously voted for ratification of an agreement on construction of the fiberglass pipe manufacturing plant that was signed between the Government of Tajikistan and Composite T.A. LLC.

A regular sitting of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, presided over by its head, Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda, took place on March 3.

Presenting the agreement to lawmakers, Saadi Qodirzoda, the head of the State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest), noted that estimated budget for construction of the mentioned plant is about 8 million U.S. dollars.

According to him, an area of four hectares has been allotted for construction of the fiberglass pipe manufacturing plant with annual capacity of 150 kilometers of pipes.

The plant that will manufacture 300- and 3000-millimeter fiberglass pipes will create 100 new jobs, GosKomInvest head noted.

The plant is expected to begin manufacturing the fiberglass pipes at the end of this year.

According to Qodirzoda, Tajikistan last year imported US$7.5 million worth of fiberglass pipes.

Technological advancements in the filament winding process, corrosion resistance, education and outreach, and strong market forces have contributed to the popularity of fiberglass pipe.

Composite, or fiberglass pipe, has been utilized in a wide range of industries such as power generation, petrochemical and desalination.  Fiberglass pipe is an alternative for concrete, coated-steel and other plastic pipe.  Fiberglass is a light-weight, corrosion-resistant, cost-competitive piping alternative especially in large-diameter, high-pressure applications.  It has a life cycle that often exceeds 30 years.
