Families of those killed in the recent unrest on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border will receive financial assistance in the amount of 70,000 somonis each on behalf of President Emomali Rahmon, Muzaffar Yunusov, a spokesman for Sughd governor, told Asia-Plus Wednesday afternoon.

Tajik authorities have not published information on casualties but according to some sources, at least 19 Tajik citizens, including 10 military personnel, were killed and 88 people were injured.

According to Yunusov, ten families have received 70,000 somonis each to date.

Meanwhile, Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service, known locally as Radio Ozodi, ,says Tajik authorities have confirmed deaths of ten Isfarans in the recent border clashes.        

On Wednesday May 5, Sughd Governor Rajabboy Ahmadzoda and Tajik Border Troops Commander Rajabali Rahmonzoda visited homes of those killed during the April 28-20 clashes.  

“Local entrepreneurs are also providing assistance to families of those killed or wounded in the recent unrest,” Muzaffar Yunusov said.
