Rehabilitation of the Dushanbe-Kulma road section, which connects the administrative center of Darvaz region with Vanj region (to the border of Rushan region), began today, September 27, with the participation of President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the press service of the head of the country reports.

The length of this most difficult section of the road is 109 kilometers. After rehabilitation, it will shrink to 92 km.

The rehabilitation of this section involves the construction of a two-lane road of the third technical category, two tunnels (5.2 km long), a gallery with a total length of 490 meters, 15 bridges (634 meters) and other facilities.

The beginning of the direct work on the rehabilitation of this section of the road was postponed several times.

Since 2019, the authorities have been talking about providing China with gratuitous aid in the amount of about $ 360 million, part of which is planned to be spent on the reconstruction of the road from Darvaz to Vanj and the Rushan border.

The Minister of Transport of Tajikistan, Azim Ibrohim, in July this year, explained the delay in the implementation of the project to rehabilitate this section by a pandemic and delays in obtaining funding.

«There were some delays in financing the project, and without money, it will not work to start work», – said the Minister.
