A resident of Vahdat Township has been jailed for viewing and disseminating extremist content online.

The Prosecutor-General’s Office said on March 3 that the Vahdat city court has sentenced local resident Behrouz Rahmonzoda to five years in prison.

The sentence followed his conviction on charges of organizing an extremist group (Article 307 (3) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code).  He will serve his term in a high-security penal colony.

Rahmonzoda reportedly viewed extremist content, materials of the Taliban Movement and the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan (IRPT), which are banned in Tajikistan on YouTube and shared them through social networks.
