Russian media reports said on May 18 that Belarus has introduced death penalty for attempts to carry out acts of terrorism.

Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency, citing an online government portal for legal information, says Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko signed a law on the possibility of the death penalty for an attempted terrorist act.

It said the law would come into force 10 days after its publication.

Some media reports say Belarus is the only country in Europe that continues carrying out executions despite calls for a moratorium.
