On Saturday 4 June, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Mr. Sirojiddin Muhriddin, met here with Ms. Natalia Gherman, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, who is in Dushanbe to attend the Second International High-Level Conference on the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development", 2018-2028.

The Tajik MFA information department says the parties discussed issues related to expanding cooperation in resolving problems and conflicts, strengthening the state border, ensuring transnational security, safeguarding peace and sustainable development in the region.

Muhriddin and Gherman reportedly also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest.

At the end of the meeting, they also expressed satisfaction with the level of partnership within the United Nations, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

The Second High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028” under the title “Catalyzing Water Action and Partnership at the Local, National, Regional and Global Levels” will be held in Dushanbe from June 6-9, 2022. 

The conference is being hosted by the Government of Tajikistan in cooperation with the United Nations and other partners.

The second Dushanbe Water Conference will focus on the ways on how governments and other stakeholders accelerate action and partnership to contribute to the implementation of water-related goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, the Paris Agreement and the New Urban Agenda.

The event will also provide an opportunity for joint discussion of achievements and challenges during the implementation of the Water Action Decade, including the initiatives adopted at the First Dushanbe Water Conference.

The conference will make a significant contribution to the holding of the UN Conference on the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the implementation of the objectives of the  International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028, which will be held on March 22-24, 2023 in New York.
