The number of human trafficking cases increases 9.7-fold in Tajikistan

Based on data from the Interior Ministry of Tajikistan, the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan says that in January-April this year, there were 6,011 crimes reported, which is 7.5 percent fewer than in the same period last year.

There were 1,286 serious crimes reported, which was 9.2 percent less than in January-April last year.  

Eleven cases of murder and murder attempt have been reported in the country over the first four months of this year, which is two cases less than in the same period last year (a 15.4 percent reduction compared to January-April last year).

The number of crimes related to stealing firearms and ammunition has reportedly decreased by 50 percent in January-April this year (one case reported over the first four months of this year against two cases reported in January-April last year).

Compared to January-April last year, there was a 9.3 percent reduction of the number of reported crimes involving the manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, and use of drugs, according to the Agency for Statistics (176 cases reported over the first four months of this year against 194 cases reported in the same period last year).

Meanwhile, the number of some serious crimes has reportedly increased over the reporting period.

Thus, the number of rapes and rap attempts has increased by30 percent in January-April this year (13 cases reported over the first four months of this year against 10 cases reported in the same period last year).

In January-April this year, 36 cases of robbery have been reported in the country (a 16.1-percent increase compared to the same period last year, when 31 cases were reported).

Over the first four months of this year, five cases of abduction of a person have been reported in Tajikistan (1.6-fold increase compare to the same period last year, when three such cases were reported in the country).

Compared to January-April last year, there was a 9.7-fold increase in the number of reported human trafficking cases (29 cases reported in January-April this year against three cases reported in the same period last year).        

Over the first four months of this year, 869 economic crimes have been reported in Tajikistan (a 5.5-percetn decrease compared to January-April last year, when 920 economic crimes were reported in the country). 

60.1 percent of all the crimes reported over the first four months of this year have been solved compared to 65.7 per cent in January-April last year.
