A woman from Khuroson district in Khatlon province has got a lengthy jail term for stealing newborn baby form maternity hospital.

            The Khuroson district court sentenced Oisha Sharipova to eight years in prison on July 12.  The sentence reportedly followed her conviction on charges of kidnapping (Article 130 (2) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code).

            Sharipova will serve her jail term in a low-security penal colony

            The Khuroson court’s press center says Sharipova stole a newborn baby from the maternity hospital in Abdurahmoni-Jomi district, Khatlon province on September 23, 2022.  

            This is not the first case of baby abduction in the country. 

            In November 2021, a woman from Hisor district stole a two-month-old baby from a women in Dushanbe, who entrusted her child to a stranger to go to the drug store.
