Tajikistan will attract more than $100 million to the tourism sector in the coming years as part of 4 new projects.

In the first half of 2023, the WTO's international consultants prepared a tourism satellite account (TSA) and a plan for sustainable tourism development in Tajikistan for 2022-2030, said the Head of the Tourism Development Committee under the Government of Tajikistan Kamoliddin Muminzod at a press conference.

According to him, a competition was also announced among consulting companies to develop two master plans for tourism development – the first in Dushanbe and its surroundings, the second in Penjikent and the Fan Mountains.

Based on them, 4 investment projects will be developed for a total amount of over $100 million. The Asian Development Bank has allocated $45 million as a grant for the first project, the implementation of which starts in 2025, said Mumiinzod.

In the field of tourism, according to him, a tourism development project is currently being implemented with financing from the ADB in the amount of $ 10 million.

The project implements a comprehensive tourism development plan, including market demand analysis and skill mapping, as well as institutional capacity-building in the tourism sector.

The project will also help the country to develop a tourism satellite account, which is a strategic prerequisite for the development and monitoring of the sector, the head of the Tourism Committee stressed.

The project is expected to be completed in 2024.

The second project is part of the rural economy development project in Tajikistan and is funded by the World Bank in the amount of $30 million, of which $15.7 million is directed to the development of tourism.

This project is being implemented by the State Institution "Project Implementation Center for Access to Green Financing and the Rural Development Fund" of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic.

The project deals with the development of tourist infrastructure, including bringing the historical and ecological object "Chiluchorchashma", the Khoja Mashhad madrasah, the Hulbuk and Yamchun fortresses to international standards, the construction of small hotels, reception points for tourists, souvenir shops and other facilities.
