On Friday September 15, the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), through the Thrive Tajikistan: Partnership for Socio-Economic Development program, organized an official handover ceremony to deliver 1,774 tables and 3,548 chairs to 15 schools in Shamsiddin-Shohin district of Khatlon province, according to the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) Office in Tajikistan.

This furniture will help improve the quality of education in these schools and enhance the learning environment for 4,484 students.

Attending the event, the deputy chairman of Shamsiddin-Shohin district, Jalolkhon Abdullozoda, expressed his gratitude to the Thrive program.

He stated: “The partnership between the Aka Khan Foundation and the Government of Tajikistan in the education sector has a significant impact on the learning environment, and today's furniture handover is proof of this fruitful collaboration.”

Thrive Tajikistan: Partnership for Socio-Economic Development is a five-year (2018-2023) program jointly funded by AKF and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), with the overall goal of enhancing socio-economic development in Khatlon and the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).

Over the last five years, Thrive has engaged with departments of education across targeted districts to improve teacher capacity and curriculum delivery through a blend of in-person and video-based training.  Further, Thrive has worked closely with schools, reinforcing skills development and extracurricular activities of student councils while also revitalizing and ensuring the financial and operational sustainability of early childhood development centers.
