The local authorities of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) are seriously concerned over increase in prices of petroleum products and high cost of medicines in the region.

These issues were discussed at a meeting held by the GBAO deputy governor, Anvar Immatshozoda, in GBAO’s capital, Khorog, on November 30.

An official source within the GBAO regional administration says senior representatives of the regional health directorate, antimonopoly agency, standardization agency, as well as owners of Khorog-based drug stores and entrepreneurs engaged in delivering petroleum products to the region attended the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Immatshozoda also noted that gasoline having been delivered to the region recently is of low quality.

It was noted at the meeting that due to rising fuel prices, drivers engaged in private carrying intend to raise fares.

The local authorities will take adequate measures to keep the fares the same, the source said.

According to him, representatives of drivers, engaged in private carrying, also attended the meeting and they noted that gasoline that is being delivered to the region from Dushanbe is of low quality.

“The fuel has now been sent for testing,” the source noted.

He further noted that the issue of high cost of medicines in the region had also been raised at the meeting.

It was reportedly noted that relevant bodies will take this issue under their control and take adequate measures.
