“In connection with this great tragedy, I express my sincere condolences to you, the friendly people of Japan, and the relatives and friends of the deceased, and I wish a speedy and complete recovery to all the victims.”

Media reports say Japan was hit by 155 earthquakes since Monday including the main 7.6-magnitude jolt that struck Ishikawa and another over 6.  Most of the earthquakes were of magnitude higher than 3 on the Richter scale.  At least six strong jolts were felt on Tuesday.

The quake that struck central Japan on New Year’s Day caused extensive damage with numerous casualties.  Powerful earthquakes killed at least 73 people in the country’s west.
