According to statistical data from the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), last year’s agricultural product from all categories of farms in Tajikistan was more than 63 billion somonis (in current prices) and increased by 9.0 percent compared to 2022, including crop growing products – more than 43.3 billion somonis – by 6.8 per cent, and animal husbandry – more than 19.6 billion somonis or 14.1 percent.

The share of the agrarian sector in the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) last year amounted  to 24.6 percent.

Production indicators for almost all types of products reportedly increased and exceeded the forecast of the country’s key macroeconomic indicators for 2023-2025.

Tajik farmers last year obtained a high yield of grains, vegetables and melons as well as potatoes, fruits.  All categories of farms also increase production of meat, milk and eggs.

However, due to various reasons, farming units failed to fulfill forecast plans for the production of grapes, fish and honey in 2023.

Last year, Tajik farmers reportedly reached only 67.7 percent of the forecast target for grape production due to adverse weather conditions.  Due to the abnormal cold weather at the beginning of the year, part of the vineyards was destroyed.

In 2023, Tajik farmers produced about 4,700 tons of honey, which is 1.6 percent fewer than it was originally planned.

Last year, Tajik fishing farms produced 5,400 tons of fish, which 6.1 percent or 400 tons fewer than it was originally planned.  Meanwhile, Tajikistan’s annual requirements in fish are at least 90,000 tons (average annual fish consumption per capita is 9 kilograms).   .
