52 industrial accidents that were reported in Tajikistan last year left 34 dead and 34 injured, Sanat Rahim, the head of the Service for State Safety Supervision in Industry and Mining under the Government of Tajikistan, told reporters in Dushanbe on January 30.

According to him the accidents mostly resulted from irresponsibility of engineers and technicians, inattention of victims when working with dangerous objects, violation of industrial safety and technology rules, and lack of qualified specialists.

In 40 industrial accidents that were officially registered in the country in 2022, 25 people were killed and 46 others injured.

The head of the Service for State Safety Supervision in Industry and Mining, in particular, noted that the death toll last year increased compared to 2022 due to the accident at the sewerage system in the northern city of Panjakent.  According to him, the accident took place because of lack of professionalism of technical supervision specialists.

Recall, seven employees of the State Unitary Enterprise (SUE) Obu Korez’s branch in Panjakent (Panjakent municipal waterworks) died from sewer gas poisoning on May 13, 2023.  The tragedy took place during the repair of the sewers on the 50-Solagii Tojikiston Street.
