18 athletes will represent Tajikistan at the first Gushtingiri World Championship, which will be held on August 28-31 in Dushanbe. The opening of the championship and the election of the head of the International Wrestling Federation will take place in the first two days. The matches themselves will be held on August 30 and 31 at the Palace of Tennis and Water Sports of the capital.

As reported by Asia-Plus in the Gushtingiri Federation of the Republic, there are 12 men and 6 women among Tajik athletes.

Two athletes will compete in each weight category. This:

Shahboz Saidabrorov and Mullorajab Khalifayev in the weight of 65 kg;

Ahmad Masood, Mirzojamil Ramazonov – 71 kg;

Rakhmatullobek Farkhodov, Koim Shukronov – 78 kg;

Umar Rasulov, Khaknazar Nazarov – 86 kg;

Ulugbek Rakhimov, Karomatullo Khakimov – 95 kg;

Sharif Nazriev, Shakarmamad Mirmamadov – +95 kg;

Madina Kurbonzoda, Ruziguli Hassan – 52 kg;

Jonona Nazarova, Shokhida Kalandarova – 70 kg;

Mavluda Odinaeva and Sabrina Kholova – +70 kg.

The tournament itself will be held in 9 weight categories, women will compete in 3, men in 6 weights.

In total, more than 200 athletes from 60 countries will take part in the championship. The prize fund is $400 thousand. Gold medal winners will receive $20,000, silver medalists – $10,000 and bronze medalists – $5,000.

Also, the teams that took the first three places in terms of the number of medals will receive prizes in the amount of $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000, respectively.

It is worth noting that in 2022 wrestling (gushtingiri) acquired an international status. It was registered with the Swiss Ministry of Justice, and the Tajik organization received an international certificate.
