The Prosecutor General's Office of Kyrgyzstan has published a list of terrorist and extremist organizations whose activities are prohibited in the country. There are 20 organizations on the list, the “Taliban” is not among them. The Kyrgyz media drew attention to this.

At the same time, the Kyrgyz authorities have not made any official statements on the issue of excluding the “Taliban” from the list of terrorist and extremist organizations.

The “Taliban” was recognized as a terrorist organization by the decision of the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek on September 15, 2006.

The State Commission for Religious Affairs could not answer journalists why the “Taliban” was not on the list.

“Taking into account recent changes in Afghanistan, the Taliban may be excluded from the list of terrorist organizations. It is better to contact the judicial authorities, which can more accurately answer this question,” – said Deputy head of the department Azamat Yusupov.

The Taliban Government of Afghanistan has already responded to this fact. The Foreign Ministry of the unrecognized Islamic Emirate stated that it “welcomes and approves the decision of the Kyrgyz authorities to exclude the “Taliban” movement from the list of banned groups”.

“The step taken by Kyrgyzstan means the growing political recognition of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan both regionally and internationally and removes an obstacle to strengthening bilateral relations between Afghanistan and other countries,” – the Foreign Ministry said in a comment.

Recall that in December 2023, Kazakhstan removed the “Taliban” from the list of banned organizations in the country. The Foreign Ministry explained this decision by the absence of a radical movement in the lists of organizations recognized as terrorist by the UN Security Council.

In June of this year, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that the “Taliban” had been removed from the terrorist list in order to develop economic cooperation with Afghanistan.

Later, the Russian authorities announced plans to remove the “Taliban” from the blacklist. In Tajikistan, unlike its neighbors, they are in no hurry to establish contacts with the “Taliban”, which is still listed in the list of terrorist and extremist organizations in the republic.
