German Chancellor Olaf Scholtz held bilateral meeting with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on September 15 to discuss bilateral cooperation between Germany and Uzbekistan.

The press service of the head of Uzbekistan reported on Sunday that Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with visiting German Chancellor Olaf Scholtz, who was on an official visit to Uzbekistan on September 15-16, in Uzbekistan's second-largest city of Samarkand to discuss bilateral ties.

During the meeting, the Uzbek leader reportedly highlighted the historical significance of the visit.  Both leaders also discussed further expanding Uzbek-German relations, according to the press service.

As the trade turnover between the two countries exceeded 1 billion euros (1.1 billion U.S. dollars) last year, German companies have invested 800 million euros (890 million US dollars) in the country, the press service said.

The parties also discussed holding regular consultations on international and regional issues, the press service said.

In the course of the official visit, eight bilateral agreements were reportedly concluded, encompassing areas such as migration, veterinary medicine, sustainable water resource management, transport, and climate change.

Furthermore, the Program for Technological Partnership and Industrial Cooperation for 2024-2026 was formally endorsed.
