Tajikistan is set to launch the production of AI-powered drones, marking a significant development in the country's high-tech sector, particularly in civil and defense technologies.

The press release issued by Zipl.ai says this initiative stems from a memorandum signed between Tajikistan's Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MoINT), the AI Council under the MoINT, and the UAE-based company QullaAI on the sidelines of the “Startupstan 2024” forum that took place on October 11.

The project reportedly focuses on the integration of cutting-edge technologies into the production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), intended for both civilian and defense purposes.

One key aspect of the initiative is the development of AI-driven drones using computer vision algorithms for border security.  Additionally, the agreement includes plans to manufacture electronic warfare systems (EWS), 3D-print drone components, and train local specialists, creating jobs and boosting technical expertise in the country.

To support this project, QullaAI will attract US$1 million in venture capital for the localized production of drones, with the goal of scaling up globally.  The production will be based in a special military free economic zone, offering tax and other incentives to stimulate industrial growth.

The MoINT, along with the AI Council, will assist QullaAI in establishing connections with government and private entities and ensuring the project benefits from the special economic zone’s advantages.

According to Mr. Azizjon Azimi, Chairman of the AI Council, this agreement aligns with President Emomali Rahmon's vision of strengthening the country's defense capabilities.

Headquartered in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, QullaAI specializes in developing AI-based drones for both civilian and defense applications.  The company will focus on adapting its drone product line to local conditions in Tajikistan, with the first models expected to enter production next year.
