Torrential rain on November 21 caused a landslide and a rockfall that blocked in two places the Dushanbe-Khorog highway in the Darvoz district of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).

An official source within the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan says a landslide carrying a mass of slurry and rocks blocked the highway hear Umarak village (the 352nd kilometer of the Dushanbe-Khorog highway).

A rockfall reported at the 356th kilometer of the highway blocked the highway near the village of Madras.

No casualties were reported.

Specialized equipment has been dispatched to the areas to clear the debris. Cleanup operations are ongoing.

The Emergencies Committee has warned that the risk of landslides, rockfalls, and avalanches remains high in mountainous regions through November 24.
