On May 10, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon congratulated Mr. Friedrich Merz on his election as Federal Chancellor of Germany, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

“On this occasion, I would like to once again emphasize the Tajik side’s interest in the comprehensive development of friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation with the Federal Republic of Germany. In this context, we advocate for the fruitful continuation of dialogue between our two countries at the highest and high levels across all areas of mutual interest.

We are confident that through our joint constructive efforts, we will be able to take even more practical steps to enrich the substance of our multifaceted partnership in line with the fundamental interests of our peoples,” the message states.

German media reports say Friedrich Merz has secured a majority in the second round of voting at the German Bundestag, averting a constitutional crisis.

Deutsch Welle (DW) reported on May 6 that conservative leader Friedrich Merz has been elected as new chancellor in the second round of voting in the Bundestag (Germany’s lower chamber of parliament). 

The BBC says his coalition with the Social Democrats should have had enough seats in parliament from the start, with 328 MPs in total, but it is thought 18 of them dissented during the first vote.

Merz, 69, was then sworn in as chancellor by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and his team of 17
