In Tajikistan, the list of utility services includes, among other things, water supply, sewage, and solid waste disposal.  It turns out that the cost of these services varies significantly depending on the city or district, and in some places, certain services are not provided at all.

The highest rates for water and sewage are found in Gorno Badakhshan-Autonomous Region (GBAO)’s capital, Khorog, where residents pay 3.12 somonis per cubic meter.

However, centralized sewage systems are not available in all regions of the country; in some areas, only water supply is provided.

Waste collection is organized in 14 districts and cities, with a service cost of 58.08 somonis per cubic meter.  According to regulations, the average person disposes of 2.05 cubic meters of waste per year.  Thus, the annual cost of waste disposal per resident amounts to around 119 somonis.

In rural areas, the supply of drinking and irrigation water is handled by a separate utility unit – Tojikobdehot, which operates in 25 districts across the country.

In Dushanbe, the rates for solid waste disposal vary depending on the type of housing. Homeowners in private houses pay the highest rates, ranging from 2.90 to 3.10 somoni. Next are residents of non-improved houses, who pay between 2.70 and 3 somoni. The lowest rates are set for residents of improved houses with garbage chutes, ranging from 2.40 to 2.60 somoni, and for those without garbage chutes, the rates range from 2.00 somonis to 2.20 somonis.

For drinking water and sewage, Dushanbe residents pay 75 dirams per cubic meter without a meter and 2.26 somonis with a meter.

We’ve analyzed the utility service rates and compiled them into an infographic.
