A criminal case has been initiated against the 50-year-old English tutor Ulughbek Alimurzayev in Dushanbe on suspicion of engaging in immoral actions under Article 142 (2) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code ("Lewd Acts").  The information was confirmed by Sirojiddin Shukuri, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry.

According to sources, Alimurzayev is currently in custody.  Under the charges, he faces a prison sentence of 5 to 8 years if convicted.

Shukuri emphasized that, according to law enforcement sources, Alimurzayev, who had been conducting private foreign language lessons at his home for many years, is accused of engaging in lewd acts with female students.  These allegations were substantiated during the preliminary investigation.

The arrest of the private English tutor follows a post published on Facebook on July 8, where several women accused him of inappropriate behavior.  The publication sparked significant public outcry.

The Instagram community Tell Me Sister, an organization that assists women facing violence and harassment, also reacted to the situation.  Many women began commenting on the post, claiming they had experienced similar inappropriate behavior from the tutor.

On July 11, the Dushanbe Police Department reported that a group of women had filed complaints about the immoral conduct of the English tutor.  The complaint was investigated by the staff of the police station-2 in Dushanbe’s Sino district.

As a result of the investigation, the 50-year-old Ulughbek Alimurzayev was arrested as a suspect.  The investigation revealed that he had been providing private language lessons at his home for many years.

The prosecutor’s office of the Sino district continues the ongoing investigation.
