The acceleration of digital transformation and the expansion of high-speed internet access across Tajikistan, including remote and hard-to-reach areas, were discussed on July 22 during a meeting between the leadership of the Agency for Innovation and Digital Technologies under the President of Tajikistan and representatives from the international Starlink system, which is part of the SpaceX group.

The Agency’s leadership reportedly presented Starlink representatives with the institution's mandate, key tasks, and activities, including the development of national digital policy, implementation of innovative solutions, IT infrastructure development, and the promotion of digital inclusivity.

"Special attention was given to the prospects of future cooperation within the initiatives aimed at expanding satellite coverage and ensuring internet connectivity in the regions of the country with limited telecommunication infrastructure.  The guests were also introduced to key projects, including the development of digital platforms, mobile applications, and initiatives in the field of cybersecurity," the Agency’s statement said.

As part of the visit, the Starlink representatives were introduced to the activities of the Public Joint-Stock Company "Certification Centers, State Services, and Digital Program Development" under the Agency, which serves as the operational center for digital solutions.

Starlink is a global satellite communication system providing high-speed internet access anywhere in the world, including remote areas.  Developed by SpaceX, owned by billionaire Elon Musk, Starlink currently operates approximately 7,800 satellites in Earth's orbit.  The project's goal is to expand the network to 42,000 satellites to cover every corner of the planet.  The number of Starlink users now exceeds 6 million across nearly 100 countries.
