Prices for liquefied natural gas at gas stations in the capital of Tajikistan decreased by 4%, from 4.8-4.9 somoni at the end of last week to 4.6-4.7 somoni per liter as of today, September 2.

The cost of fuel, as usual, varies depending on the location of the gas station and the level of service. The difference in the city is on average about 10 dirams.

Thus, since the beginning of the year, the retail price of liquefied natural gas in Dushanbe has decreased by almost 40%, from 7.5 somoni per liter in January to 4.6 somoni today.

Meanwhile, according to official statistics, in January-July of this year, this type of fuel in the republic fell in price by 28.2%, including 11.4% in July alone.

It should be noted that over the past decade, liquefied natural gas has remained the main type of automotive fuel in the country due to its relative cheapness. In the early 2010s, Tajik drivers gradually began switching to gas amid rising prices for gasoline and diesel fuel.

By the mid-2010s, according to official data, more than 60% of vehicles in the republic used liquefied natural gas.

However, in recent years, especially in the capital, there has been an increase in the number of electric vehicles. This has led to a decrease in demand for traditional fuels, including liquefied natural gas.

According to the Ministry of Transport, about 18,000 electric vehicles were imported to Tajikistan in 2024, and almost 13,000 in the first five months of 2025 alone.

The total number of electric vehicles in the country as of June 1, 2025 was more than 34 thousand units.

According to the Antimonopoly Service, 176.9 thousand tons of liquefied natural gas were imported into the republic in the first half of 2025, which is 18.5 thousand tons less than in the same period of 2024.

More than 53% of this volume came from Russia, and about 47% from Kazakhstan.

During the specified period, 15 companies were engaged in the import of liquefied natural gas, among which the largest shares are accounted for by:

– LLC "Temur Oil" – 27.8%;

– "Allat" – 15.1%;

– LLC "Gazpromneft Tajikistan"– 9.6%;

– LLC "Iris" – 7,8%;

– LLC "Bahor" – 7.2%;

– LLC "Kayunush Taminot" – 5,6%;

– LLC "Oktan Service" – 5.5%;

– LLC "Habib Oil" – 5.0%";

– LLC "Mabdai Nur" – 3.7%;

– and other subjects – 12.6%.
