On September 16, Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon met here with Nurlanbek Turgunbek Uulu, Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh (Kyrgyzstan’s parliament).

The Tajik president’s official website says the parties discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, including inter-parliamentary relations, according to a press release from the president’s office.

Rahmon reportedly emphasized the importance of fostering multifaceted cooperation with Kyrgyzstan, highlighting the significant role of parliamentary diplomacy in advancing these efforts.  He noted that the activities of the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, as well as experience exchange and mutual support on the international stage through the parliaments of both countries, are essential to strengthening ties.

Rahmon and Turgunbek Uulu also explored ways to enhance cooperation in key areas such as trade, economy, transport, agriculture, and the water-energy sector.  The cultural and humanitarian exchange between the two nations was another important topic of discussion.

Additionally, they engaged in constructive dialogue on strengthening collaboration within multilateral organizations, including the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), according to the Tajik president’s official website.

In a gesture of goodwill, Turgunbek Uulu conveyed warm greetings from Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov to his Tajik counterpart, Kyrgyzstan’s AKIpress reports, saying that the Kyrgyz official noted that state visits between the two countries' leaders play a vital role in strengthening friendly relations and advancing inter-parliamentary ties.

"My official visit to Tajikistan today is a clear demonstration of this," Turgunbek Uulu remarked.  "Now, the legislative bodies of both countries need to support the agreements reached and help ensure their successful implementation."

The issue of border resolution was also highlighted, with Turgunbek Uulu praising the political will of the two presidents to resolve the matter.  He emphasized that this step had contributed to the stability of not only the two neighboring countries but also the broader region.

“We must continue to expand our partnership in all areas, particularly in the economic sector. If we succeed in increasing our trade turnover to US$500 million in the near future, it will significantly benefit both countries. Kyrgyzstan, as a gateway to the Eurasian Economic Union, is ready to assist Tajikistan in accessing larger markets,” he added, according to AKIpress.

This high-level meeting reflects the growing cooperation between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, with an emphasis on enhancing bilateral ties and fostering regional stability.
