Tajikistan will host a major international chess tournament for the President’s Cup from October 9-16.

According to the Tajikistan Chess Federation (TCF), the opening and closing ceremonies, along with the awards presentation, will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dushanbe, while the tournament itself will take place at the capital’s Istiqlol Hotel.

The event is organized by the TCF with support from the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and the Committee on Youth and Sports under the Government of Tajikistan.  The general sponsor is the business group Koinoti Nav.  The prize fund amounts to $50,000.

Tournament format

The competition will follow a nine-round Swiss system and will be divided into two rating groups:

  • Group A — for players rated 2200 and above.
  • Group B — for players rated below 2200.

Time control is set at 90 minutes per game with an increment of 30 seconds per move.

Fair play rules

Organizers emphasize strict compliance with FIDE’s Code of Ethics and fair play regulations.  The use of electronic devices, outside assistance, or any form of cheating is strictly prohibited. Violators will be disqualified.

Participants are also required to follow the dress code and ensure they are in good health. Players showing symptoms of illness are advised to refrain from competing or notify referees in advance.

Registration and participation

Those wishing to compete must register by sending an application to the official TCF email: [email protected]. Applications must include full name, rating, age, and FIDE ID.

Full tournament regulations, including prize distribution and participation terms for Tajik and foreign players, are available on the federation’s official website.
