Tajikistan and Russia have signed a new Healthcare Cooperation Roadmap for 2026–2027, further strengthening their partnership in the medical sector. The document was formalized during a meeting between Tajik Health Minister Jamoliddin Abdullozoda and Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko, who was in Dushanbe with representatives from Russia’s public health agency Rospotrebnadzor.
Minister Abdullozoda emphasized Tajikistan’s appreciation for Russia’s ongoing support in training medical professionals, advancing scientific research, introducing modern healthcare technologies, and disease prevention.
“Our countries have maintained close and constructive ties for many years, based on trust and mutual respect,” Abdullozoda stated.
The roadmap outlines continued cooperation in public health, including prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic noncommunicable diseases. It also promotes collaboration on AI and telemedicine technologies.
Pharmaceutical sector takes center stage
A significant portion of the agreement focuses on deepening pharmaceutical cooperation. Key areas include:
- Regulatory collaboration on drug and medical device circulation
- Exchange of expertise in biotech drug development and manufacturing
- Technology transfer in pharmaceuticals
- Supply and potential localization of Russian medical products in Tajikistan
Minister Murashko noted that Russia has extensive experience in developing and launching pharmaceutical innovations globally—from the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine to advanced radiopharmaceuticals.
Link to migration reforms
The roadmap builds on an earlier agreement signed during President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Tajikistan, which allows Tajik citizens seeking employment in Russia to undergo mandatory medical examinations in a dedicated center in Dushanbe. The screening will follow Russian health ministry standards and will not require repetition upon arrival in Russia. The service will be fee-based.
