On Thursday November 20, Tajikistan’s Head of the Communications Service, Isfandiyor Sa’dullo, met in Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, with Iran’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Sattar Hosseini, on the sidelines the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2025 (WTDC-25).

According to Tajikistan’s communications service agency, the two officials discussed the import of internet traffic from Iran to Tajikistan and expanding bilateral cooperation in communications and cybersecurity.

The talks reportedly covered prospects for collaboration in international roaming, the potential import of internet traffic, the exchange of cybersecurity expertise, and training specialists for the information and communication technology (ICT) sector.

At the end of the meeting, both sides expressed a commitment to expanding cooperation in digital technologies and cybersecurity.

However, it is not yet clear whether specific agreements were reached regarding internet traffic imports and other areas of cooperation.

The World Telecommunication Development Conference 2025 is taking place in Baku from November 17 to 28 under the theme “Universal, Meaningful, and Affordable Connectivity for an Inclusive and Sustainable Digital Future”.

Earlier, while speaking at the international forum "Digital Transformation: Prospects and Solutions," Isfandiyor Sa’dullo emphasized on April 7, 2025 that Tajikistan's state policy aims to create favorable conditions for healthy competition in the country’s telecommunications market.

The communications service agency notes that “of the 30 active companies and providers, 29 are private companies, which play a key role in the development of the country's telecommunications industry.”

The communications service agency head also emphasized that providing modern infrastructure for mobile and fixed networks is crucial for improving the quality of telecommunications services. Among the government’s priorities are improving the speed and quality of telecommunications, ensuring reliable radio coverage across the country, aligning the industry with international standards, and promoting Tajikistan as a regional transit hub in the telecommunications market.
