Loans of totaling some 3.5 million Somonis provided by “Tojiksodirotbonk” branch in Kulob last year

KULOB, January 16, Asia-Plus – In 2005, a total revenue of the Kulob branch of “Tojiksodirotbonk” amounted to 789,636 Somonis, including 411,502 Somonis as interest payments on loans. 

According to Abdurkarim Nematov, head of the Kulob Branch of “Tojiksodirotbonk”, last year, their bank provided loans for a total amount of 3.435 million Somonis.  The major part loans have gone on financing the construction of the jubilee objects in Kulob, the Asia-Plus interlocutor noted.  “2.5 million Somonis were allocated for the construction of the facilities and 1.4 million Somonis were allocated for paying the builders’ wages,” Nematov said.

on January 15.  

Khudoinazar Asoyev, chief spokesman for the interior ministry, has told Asia-Plus that when searching a car “VAZ 21-021” officers of the

transportation police directorate found 70 kilograms of heroin hidden in its boot.  Two persons, resident of Isfara Naim Majidov and resident of Fayzobod Mahmad Nuriddinov, were detained on suspicion of having been involved in transporting the heroin.  Investigation is ongoing.  

On the same day, Khatlon police detained members of criminal ring involved in drug trafficking in Vose District.  According to Asoyev, more than 21 kilograms of hashish and one hand grenade F-1 were confiscated from two local residents – Abdujalil Hasanov and Alijon Davaltov.

346 unit of firearms seized in northern Tajikistan last year

KHUJAND, January 16, Asia-Plus – In 2005, officers of the Interior Ministry’s Administration for Sughd confiscated 346 unit of firearms from the population, which is 50 unit more compared to the previous year.

-Plus that the totaled included 13 sub-machine-guns, 31 rifles and 287 unit of smooth-bore guns, 8 grenades and 1,843 bullets of different caliber.  

“Last year, three crimes involving firearms were registered in the region,” the source said, noting that 45 criminal proceedings were instituted last on crimes involving illegally bearing, possessing, and acquiring weapons.   

State notary in Sughd faces charge of complicity in sexual exploitation of minor 

KHUAJND, January 16, Asia-Plus /Mavluda Rafiyeva/ — Sughd prosecutor’s office has instituted criminal proceedings against state notary Muhammadi Boboyev.  He faces charges of abuse of office.  

According to information from the Interior Ministry’s Administration for Sughd, under preliminary agreement with Sanoat Ashurova from Khujand Muhammadi Boboyev in April 2003 issued forged document for issuing foreign passport to the underage girl from Khujand, who had allegedly lost her internal passport.  “Thereby he facilitated trafficking the underage girl outside the republic for sexual exploitation,” according to the source.  

This case has been revealed by a special operational group within the regional prosecutor’s office, which is engaged in investigation of such crimes.                                          

New commander of Russian military base in Tajikistan appointed

, January 16, Asia-Plus – Deputy commander of the tank division of the Moscow Military District Colonel Aleksey Zavizyon has been appointed commander of the Russian 201st military base in


Tajikistan


.  He replaced Major-General Sergey Yudin, who had occupied this post since October 2004, aide to the commander of the military unit Colonel Pavel Konev has told Asia-Plus.

According to Pavel Konev, the former commander of the base was sent to the Volga-Urals Military District with promotion.

Tajik border service given new status

, January 16, Asia-Plus – The Border Protection Committee (BPC) under the Government of Tajikistan has been given a new status.  

By president’s edict the BPC has been transformed into the State Committee for Protection of National Border of Tajikistan (SCPNBT) and Colonel-General Saydamir Zuhurov has been appointed Chairman of the SCPNBT.

By appropriate resolutions of the government Major–General Safarali Sayfulloyev was appointed First Deputy Chairman and head of Chief Staff of the SCPNBT, Sharaf Fayzulloyev was appointed Deputy Chairman and Head of Reconnaissance Department, Major-General Sabza Sarkorov was appointed Deputy Chairman for Educational Work, Muzaffar Abdulloyev was appointed Deputy Chairman for Armament and Materiel, and Safarali Nazirov was appointed Deputy Chairman and Head of Rear.

149 crimes committed by minors reported in Khatlon last year

QURGHON TEPPA, January 16, Asia-Plus – In 2005, 149 crimes committed by minors were reported in Khatlon, which is two cases fewer compared to the previous year, Asia-Plus has learned at the Khatlon prosecutor’s office.  

According to the source, criminal proceedings were instituted on 128 cases.  Last year, number of such crimes increased in Bokhtar (11 cases against 7 cases reported in 2004), Farkhor (8 cases against 3 cases in 2004) and Vose (8 cases against one case reported in 2004), the Asia-Plus interlocutor said, noting that the totaled including one killing, 82 thefts, two cases of drug trafficking, one case of hooliganism and one case entailing serious bodily injury of victim.  

“In 2005, prosecutors investigated into 142 crimes committed by minors, and 109 cases moved to courts,” the source said, noting that majority of minors facing charges are students of secondary schools.

Transportation prosecutor’s office introduces measures against train cars’ standing idle

DUSHANBE, January 16, Asia-Plus – More than 4 million Somonis were raised last year from debtors in favor of the Tajik Railways for train cars’ standing idle, Asia-Plus has learned from Oqil Sultonqulov, Chief Adie to Tajik Transportation Prosecutor.  

According to him, four persons were reprimanded and 59 others were fined for train cars’ standing idle.    

“The results of inspections have shown that there cases of illegal sale of railways codes inside the republic,” said the Asia-Plus interlocutor, “Thus, using negligence of the transportation service’s officials D. Odinayev misappropriated cargo shipments codes for the purpose of using and selling them that led to a damage of US$600,000 to the Tajik Railways.”  Criminal proceedings were instituted against Odinayev, and he refunded the loss, Sultonqulov said.

Tajik transportation prosecutor’s office sums up last year’s results

, January 16, Asia-Plus – Tajik Transportation Prosecutor, Qurbonali Muhabbatov, presided over a board meeting of the transportation prosecutor’s office last week.  The meeting was held to sum up the results of work carried out by the transportation prosecutor’s office in 2005.  

Qurbonali Muhabbatov noted that they carried out 117 inspections on the transport last year.  As a result of those inspections, 118 people were reprimanded, 69 were fined and 68 other people faced administrative charges for violation of laws.  

According to him, following materials prepared by the transportation prosecutor’s office more than 8.5 million Somonis were raised from offenders, which is 384,000 Somonis more compared to 2004.  “Of this amount, 1.5 million Somonis were transferred to the national budget and more than 7 million Somonis were sent to organization and enterprises that suffered losses from those infringements,” the chief transportation prosecutor stressed.

According to Muhabbatov, the transportation prosecutor’s office instituted 42 criminal proceedings on the basis of general inspectorate last year and 21 statements of claim for a total amount of 366,000 Somonis were brought into courts in 2005.  

On the control over observance of law on protection of state-owned property, Tajik chief transportation prosecutor named it of one priorities and main directions of activity of his office and noted that last year, the transportation prosecutor’s office instituted 22 criminal proceedings on this matter and 32 officials were reprimanded or fined.

Youth in northern district of Asht become familiar with basics of journalism

, January 13, Asia-Plus – A five-day training on basics of journalism has been conducted for youth in the northern district of Asht (


Sughd


Province


). 

The event was held within the social project of the community development program “The Peaceful Communities Initiatives (PCI)” funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).    

According to information from the Mercy Corps field office in Khujand, the main objective of the project was in bridging information gap and filling in information vacuum among young people in Asht District and spread of information about the PCI program within communities through the youth newspaper “Donoyak”.  

“The idea of conducting the training has occurred after a summer training camp for youth from border communities of Asht District was organized,” said the source, noting youth participating in the summer training camp have begun actively participating in the implementation of the project on the establishment of the “Donoyak” newspaper.  

During the training teenagers learnt how to use journalism genres, and obtained skills on writing and interviewing and making reports.  

On the last day of the training, its participants have been given an opportunity to familiarize themselves with creative and technical basis of the editorial office of the “Leninabadskay Pravda” in Khujand.  

Through the PCI community development program, Mercy Corps has focused on conflict prevention in multi-ethnic and trans-border communities in the
