, January 16, Asia-Plus – Deputy commander of the tank division of the Moscow Military District Colonel Aleksey Zavizyon has been appointed commander of the Russian 201st military base in


Tajikistan


.  He replaced Major-General Sergey Yudin, who had occupied this post since October 2004, aide to the commander of the military unit Colonel Pavel Konev has told Asia-Plus.

According to Pavel Konev, the former commander of the base was sent to the Volga-Urals Military District with promotion.

The Russian military base in


Tajikistan


was set up in October 2005 on the basis of the Gatchina Guard’s Motorized Rifle Division holding two Orders of the Red Banner. The personnel of the base number some 5,000 servicemen.

As a representative of the command stressed, “the military base is a reliable outpost of the Commonwealth of Independent States on its southern borders, as well as a guarantor of peace and stability in the region.”
