DUSHANBE, October 30, 2008, Asia-Plus — A session of the coordination council of Tajik transportation law enforcement agencies was held in Dushanbe on October 29.
The meeting participants included senior representatives of the transportation prosecutor’s office, transportation police, customs and border services.
The present situation of rail routes to the Russian Federation and rail passenger service was the major topic of the session.
During the meeting, it was noted that a special commission, comprising members of the coordination council, inspected the rail routes from Dushanbe and Khujand to Moscow and Saratov in September. They, in particular, inspected the trains for compliance with sanitary requirements.
The results of work of the commission have shown that the trains do not meet sanitary requirements and the quality of the rail passenger service is very low. Monitoring by the commission also recorded cases of passengers’ boarding the trains without tickets.
It was also noted that there were instances of illegal examination of the trains by customs and border officers of neighboring countries.
The coordination council members decided to submit the inspection results for consideration to the government.
