DUSHANBE, October 18, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Tajik Tax Committee is the only tax service within the CIS area that does not have efficient leverage on the most incorrigible tax nonpayers, the Tax Committee head Hakim Soliyev remarked while speaking before the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) on October 17.

He noted that the tax committee had been proposing twice to make amendments to the country’s tax code.  “However, our proposal on empowering tax officers to arrest bank accounts of the most incorrigible tax nonpayers has not been supported,” Soliyev said.

He called on parliamentarians to support the tax committee and make amendments to the tax code.
