DUSHANBE, March 27, 2013, Asia-Plus – The border troops commanders from Central Asia’s nations and the Russian Federation have gathered in Astana, Kazakhstan to discuss cooperation issues.

The meeting that kicked off on March 27 will last until March 29.

Lieutenant-General Sherali Mirzo, Head of the Main Directorate of Border Troops at the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of Tajikistan, together with his counterparts from the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are discussing the current situation on the Central Asian nations’ borders.

Issues related to efficient cooperation between border services and international organizations on strengthening border control have also been tabled to the meeting’s agenda.

The meeting participants are supposed to work out joint measures to address challenges and threats occurring along the borders.  

While in Astana, Sherali Mirzo is also expected to hold bilateral talks with his counterparts participating in the meeting, the Tajik Main Directorate of Border Troops press center said.
