DUSHANBE, September 26, 2008, Asia-Plus  —  30.48 million US dollars have been allocated for the second phase of the Danghara steppe irrigation project, the first Deputy Minister of Land reclamation and Water Resources, Kamol Nouraliyev, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, of this amount, US$13.8 million have been provided by Kuwait, and US$13.17 million have been provided by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).  Tajikistan’s contribution to financing of the second phase is US$3.51 million.  

The second phase, designed for 2008-2012, includes irrigation of 1,750 hectares of lands of the Danghara steppe, Khatlon province, the deputy minister said.  

 The first phase of the project was implemented from October 2, 2003 to December 30,2006 and the budget for implementation of the first phase was more than US$9 million.  

The Danghara steppe irrigation project is aimed at promoting increase of farm produce through irrigation of the Dangahra steppe that covers 1,750 hectares of lands in the Khatlon province.  The project also includes rehabilitation of a number of irrigation canals.
