Supply of daily electricity to northern Tajikistan reduced to seven hours

Date:

KHUJAND, September 25, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The supply of daily electrical power to the northern Sughd province has been reduced to seven hours – 3.5 hours of electricity in the morning and 3.5 in the evening, according to the branch of Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding in Sughd province.

The new measures limiting electricity supplies have not hit Khujand, the capital of the province, which still receives electrical power nine hours per days.

Yesterday, only 5.326 million kWh of electricity were supplied to the province, while Sughd’s daily requirements in electricity are 12 million kWh.

The source in Barqi Tojik’s branch said that the new measures had resulted form a decline in the water level in the reservoir powering the Qairoqqum hydroelectric power plant (HPP).

As it had been reported earlier, this year Tajikistan introduced electricity rationing on September 1.  The rationing introduced on September 1 resulted in the supply of daily electrical power being reduced to 19 hours.  On September 11, Barqi Tojik announced new measures rationing electricity supplies in Tajikistan.  The measures were introduced in all regions of the country except Dushanbe.  The new rationing resulted in the supply of daily electricity being reduced from 19 to 9 hours.
