DUSHANBE, July 15, 2013, Asia-Plus — Immunity for Tajik public servants will be canceled.

Mr. Jumakhon Davlatov, State Advisor to the Tajik President for Legal Issues, stated this at a news conference that took place at the Supreme Court of Tajikistan on July 15.

“Last month, immunity for members of regional, city and district legislatures as well as prosecutors and judges was canceled and this practice will be continued,” Davlatov said, noting that those measures are aimed at reducing the level of corruption in the country.

According to him, some persons offered the president and the government to give immunity to auditors from the Chamber of Accounts of Tajikistan, “but this proposal does not meet with support.”

Davlatov assured journalists that immunity for some categories of public servants and parliamentarians will be gradually canceled as well.

We will recall that Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament on June 13 endorsed the amendments providing for canceling parliamentary immunity of members of regional, city and district legislatures (Majlis).
