DUSHANBE, October 25, 2013, Asia-Plus – A group of experts from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have recently met here with senior representatives from the Ministry of Transport (MoT) of Tajikistan.
According to the MoT press center, the sides discussed issues related to technical assistance to enable capacity building for Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in Tajikistan.
Deputy Minister of Transport, Sherali Ganjalov, briefed ADB experts on an investment climate in Tajikistan and support provided for development of PPP in Tajikistan.
Within the framework of this partnership, maintenance of some sections of the Vahdat-Jirgatol-Kyrgyz Border highway has been handed over to private companies, the deputy minister noted.
According to him, the Branch of Innovative Road Solutions Ltd (IRS) maintains the session from Nourobod to Nimich (from 120th to 193rd kilometer of the highway) and the private company, Gayur, maintains the session from the Vahdat Township to Obi Garm (95 kilometers of the highways).
The sides reportedly also discuss the progress of implementation of a number of ADB-supported transportation development projects in Tajikistan and development of Tajikistan’s Transport Sector Master Plan.
Tajikistan joined ADB in 1998 and to-date, the institution has approved total assistance of around 1.1 billion USD in concessional loans, grants, and technical assistance to the country. ADB’s operations benefit the population by reducing isolation, increasing communication, broadening access to electricity, improving social services, and creating more income-generating opportunities.
