DUSHANBE, August 28, 2008, Asia-Plus – Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who arrived in Dushanbe on Wednesday, explained position regarding South Ossetia and Abkhazia to his Chinese counterpart, President Hu Jintao, Natalia Timakova, a spokeswoman for Russian president, told journalists on August 27, according to Itar-Tass.
“The two leaders exchanged views on different bilateral and international issues,” said she. “They also discussed the situation in Central Asia with making an emphasis on strengthening of potential of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and its role in providing security and stability in the region.”
Both sides vowed to boost bilateral trade-economic, energy, scientific-technical cooperation, the spokeswoman said.
The Russian head of state is taking part at the SCO summit that is opening in Dushanbe today. Medvedev is also expected to have bilateral meetings with his colleagues from Afghanistan, Iran and Kazakhstan.
On Friday, Medvedev will have talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon as part of his official visit to Tajikistan.
