DUSHANBE, December 20, 2013, Asia-Plus — As of December 2, 2013, 1.112 million Tajik nationals, including 926,000 men and more than 185,000 women, stayed in the Russian Federation, according to a report released by Russia’s Federal Migration Service (FMS).

Compared to early November, the number of Tajik nationals staying in Russia reportedly decreased by 34,000.

Meanwhile the Migration Service under the Government of Tajikistan says a total of some 910,000 people have migrated out of Tajikistan over the first eleven months of this year, 13.7% more compared to the same period last year, while 683,000 people have returned to Tajikistan over the same eleven-month period.

In November, there were 38,000 migrants recorded, 29% less than in October, 2013, Tajik migration service agency noted.

Labor migrants remain a critical component in the economy of Tajikistan.  Remittances keep many struggling families at home above the poverty line.
