DUSHANBE, August 21, 2008, Asia-Plus  — A 21-year-old Tajik flyweight (-51 kg) boxer Anvar Yunusov yesterday lost to a 33-year-old Somjit Jongiohor of Thailand in the quarterfinal of the 2008 Olympic Games 8-1 and left Beijing, Narzullo Latifov, president of the Association of Sports reporters of Tajikistan told Asia-Plus by phone from Beijing. 

Anvar Yunusov secured his place in the quarterfinal on August 15, by defeating Robernilson Vieira of Brazil 12-6, while the 33-year-old Jongiohor beat Samir Mammadov of Azerbaijan 10-2 in the bout for a place in quarterfinal.

Anvar Yunusov is well known to handle Asian Games winner Violito Payla his first ever stoppage defeat at the 2007 world championships. 

The tall counterpuncher Yunusov beat Bato-Munko Vankeev at the world championships 2005 but lost to surprise winner Lee Ok-Sung.  He finished second at the military world championships 2006 and the Ahmet Comet Cup 2007 where he beat Mirat Sarsennayev but lost to local Kadri Kordel.

At the world championships 2007 he stopped Payla but lost to Samir Mammadov later.

The last representative of Tajikistan, free-style wrestler Yusuf Abdusalomov (-84 kg), is starting competition today.
