DUSHANBE, August 12, 2008, Asia-Plus — Tajik law-enforcement authorities have seized 4,098 kilograms of narcotics in the first seven months of this year, which is 32 percent more than in the same period of last year, according to the Drug Control Agency (DCA).
The totaled included 1,266 kilograms of heroin, 1,500 kilograms of raw opium and 1,330 kilograms of cannabis.
Over the first six months of this year, officers from the counternarcotics agency have warded off 60 attempts of smuggling drugs into Tajikistan and seized 1,061 kilograms of narcotics, which is 88 percent more than in the same period of 2007, the DCA press service said.
