Water levels at Norak reservoir increasing

Date:

DUSHANBE, August 4, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Over the past two days, water levels at the reservoir power the Norak hydroelectric power station (HPS) have increased by 1.10 meters, Nozir Yodgori, a spokesman for Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding, told Asia-Plus Monday afternoon.

According to him, the rate of inflow of water into the reservoir over the mentioned days has been 1,760 cubic meters per second, “which is the record water inflow rate for this year.”

Increase in the water inflow rate has resulted from hot weather.  “Over the mentioned two days, the temperature in the country has been 45°C and even higher that has caused mountain snow to melt,” the spokesman said.

According to Barqi Tojik, last year, water levels at the Norak reservoir had reached the target technical point of 910 meter above sea level by September 17.

The present water levels at the Norak reservoirs are currently at the level of 890 meters above sea level.
