President urges to take more care of vulnerable people

DUSHANBE, January 23, Asia-Plus – President Emomali Rahmonov presided over a meeting of the government on January 22.  The meeting was held to discuss Tajikistan’s economic results in 2006.   

According to presidential press service, the meeting also considered issues related to resolving problems facing the country”s economy in the winter period, including provision of the population with natural gas and electricity.  

The meeting also discussed a progress of the collection of taxes and customs duties as well as preparations for the spring sowing campaign.    

Rahmonov demanded at the meeting that a special attention should be given to the issue of providing educational, medical facilities and social facilities, including orphanages and elderly centers, with natural gas, coal and electricity.

The president also urged to take more care of the vulnerable sections of the population, taking timely measures to ensure the regular payment of pensions and allowances.  

Participants at the meeting also considered issues of the implementation of documents signed during the recent visit of Rahmonov to China.   “The president pointed to the necessity of paying more attention to training of skilled personnel abroad by governmental quotas,” the source said.
